He did something the unity of India didn't like. Unity means the United territorial mindset. Someone thought his statements are bifurcation of Territorial integrity as ladakh is too close to Chinese military nuke testing bases and border lands. 

Can be a political issue inside the state but no one should tolerate the things he is being influencing at a border area. 

He has every right for a hunger strike. But the issue is sensitive because of Chinese near dear policy, they may run into political development in ladakh too. 

To shut down the matter and the issue he has been arrested. But statehood demand is not anti India. As the territory is harsh in geography and the contribution of Ladakh's Total % to GDP is lesser than GOA. 

Sonam Wangchuk might be an influential person or a big name in Ladakh, but whosoever is doing the violent practice near the border the leader should be blamed. Everyone knows if things get bigger violence is going to happen, no northeast people, Punjab, Gujurat, South, Bengal people no one in this country who is politically motivated is innocent in heart, they will surely try to imbalance the state with violent actions.

I am foreigner who was brought up in ladakh and living in india currently and I think india is the greatest country in this world except for the corruption. Earlier I use to think that modi isn't that bad and bjp too but now they have shown their true face.  
Now to answer your question, they have made the biggest mistake of their potical party history.  
They are not only increasing corruption but showing to the world that india has no place for god honest peoples who want to develop india.   
As you might have seen sonam wangchuk himself told to media that through reliable source his arrest is emminent as he was chosen as scapegoat just like jtn.  
If you don't remember Jamyang tsering namgyal he was the previous mp of ladakh who made the fiery speech in parliament which went viral. But when the six schedule blew up they need a scapegoat and they choose him and lost the parliament seat to an independent. Still don't know why he is still with bjp.  
Ladakh's demand are really clear but still central doesn't give a good reason but keeps giving hope.  
Also day before the youth protest when two people from hunger strike were hospitalise, there were various emotional appeal from ladakh's people who were expressing their feelings and crying and appealing to indian citizen. If that would not move the ladakhi move, then they wouldn't be ladakhi. Even I was moved.  
So sonam wangchuk has little hand and he rarely plays with emotion.  
Its the aam janta that showed their emotion which really frustrated the youth. Also central is still downplaying them which is really bad. If the central had a quarter of their love for nation and just a drop of empathy they should fly to ladakh and apologise and solve this!!!!

He is directly responsible for the violence in Ladakh. His provocative speeches and propaganda escalated tensions, resulting in the destruction of public property, vehicles, 6 deaths, and more than 90 injuries. Such actions cannot be justified and he must be held accountable.

As for the statehood demand, Ladakh’s population is barely 3 lakh, which is far too small to sustain a full state administration. More importantly, Ladakh’s strategic location,bordering both China and Pakistan ,requires direct central oversight to ensure national security. This is why the region was made a Union Territory after being separated from Jammu &amp; Kashmir in 2019.Statehood would not only create an unnecessary bureaucratic structure but also increase costs, open doors to political misuse, and weaken central control in a highly sensitive border region. The people of Ladakh are better protected through strong central governance, constitutional safeguards, and targeted development initiatives while remaining a Union Territory.

First, Ladakh’s leaders demanded separation from J&amp;K and Union Territory status ,now they are demanding full statehood. These shifting demands are unreasonable and cannot be granted by the central government.

This happened to him today, and it will happen to any of us tomorrow. He has been a pro-Modi since day one. He stood for his people peacefully for the last 6 years hoping something would change. Nothing did. Few miscreants took that opportunity and capitalised on violence. Look what happened now. He's branded an anti-national, terrorist, foreign funded, CIA stooge etc just for asking preservation of the culture, land and language of his state with 97% indigenous population. Yet the demand was not met citing security reasons, not knowing the same schedule is implemented in 4 states where border security has never been the issue despite being surrounded by 3 unstable countries. Also not accepted, otherwise how will the sponsorship of businessmen cartel invest in land grabbing in the state just like they did in Assam and Uttarakhand.

If the govt can declare him anti indian then i have lose trust. People have no idea how much of his life he has dedicated for the betterment of ladakhi people. This is a big failure of the Indian government. They are covering it up by blaming Sonam Wangchuk and bringing Congress in this matter, when it is really the centre which should have listened to the people of Ladakh when they were protesting peacefully. The BJP led central government bears the biggest responsibility for this, they've been in power for over a decade and fulfilled the UT demand in 2019, but ignored the follow up asks for statehood and safeguards despite promises and high level committees. The citizens of India have genuine grievances and peacefully protesting for 6 years but BJP as usual doesn't care about citizens of India and only themselves.  Such a shame!
